Jets' Israel Abanikanda ruled out for Monday
Jets' rookie running back Israel Abanikanda will not play in the team's Week 18 game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, head coach Robert Saleh announced Friday.
Abanikanda has been dealing with an ankle injury that has kept him out of practice this week. Saleh said the team is being cautious with the rookie, who has been one of the Jets' most productive players this season.
Abanikanda has rushed for 544 yards and three touchdowns on 110 carries this season. He also has 11 catches for 94 yards and one touchdown.
The Jets will be counting on Michael Carter and Zonovan Knight to handle the bulk of the carries in Abanikanda's absence. Carter has rushed for 432 yards and three touchdowns on 108 carries this season, while Knight has rushed for 265 yards and three touchdowns on 65 carries.
The Jets, who have lost five of their last six games, can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Dolphins. The Dolphins, who have won two of their last three games, are still in the running for a wild-card berth.
The game between the Jets and Dolphins will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday, January 8.
