ICAN Statement on Nuclear Sharing
The 2024 Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 22 to August 2, 2024.
The Preparatory Committee will discuss a wide range of issues related to the NPT, including the implementation of the treaty's articles, the status of nuclear disarmament, and the prevention of nuclear proliferation.
The United States is the largest single supporter of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission's (PrepComs) International Monitoring System. The United States is committed to working with other states parties to strengthen the NPT and to achieve the ultimate goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) has issued a statement on nuclear sharing to the 2024 Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee. ICAN calls on all states to end the practice of nuclear sharing, which it says is a violation of the NPT.
