Ex Real Madrid Defender Pushing for Lazio Starting Berth After Overcoming Injury

Nacho Fernandez Eager to Make an Impact at New Club

Injury troubles and fierce competition kept Nacho from playing regularly

Former Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez is determined to break into the starting lineup of his new club Lazio having overcome the injury troubles that hampered him at his former club. Nacho spent 13 seasons with Real Madrid, making over 250 appearances for the club but despite his impressive longevity, the Spain international often found himself behind the likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Pepe and Eder Militao in the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Nacho also faced dificulties due to injury problems early in the 2022/23 season, making just two appearances for Real Madrid before joining Lazio on a free transfer in January 2023. However, the 33-year-old defender has now fully recovered from his injury and is eager to make an impact at Lazio.

Nacho made his debut for Lazio in their 2-0 win over Salernitana on January 29, 2023, and has since made a further two appearances for the club. The experienced defender has impressed with his performances so far and is pushing for a regular starting spot in Maurizio Sarri's team.

With Lazio currently sitting sixth in the Serie A standings, Nacho will be hoping to help the club secure a place in European competition next season. The former Real Madrid defender will also be hoping to impress Spain national team manager Luis Enrique ahead of this year's World Cup in Qatar.
